MCN Challenge Bowl
We would like to thank you for your past and future participation in the MCN Challenge Bowl. It is exciting to see all of the respectful and intelligent students showcasing their knowledge of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The competition is a good place for all students to be courageous, to challenge yourself, make new friends, and show good sportsmanship.
The purpose of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Challenge Bowl is to promote our children to learn more about the Creek Culture, history, government and language using traditional values of brotherhood as the foundation. The Challenge Bowl was never set up to teach our children how to win in competitions but how to learn, share and be grateful to those willing to teach them. The Challenge Bowl Committee has set out to have a competition unlike any other academic bowl in the nation. The Challenge Bowl Committee made a commitment to set by example, positive role models in good citizenship and tribal pride that would carry on throughout the year and not just during the few days of competition. We set out to teach life skills of good manners, respect shown to others, self worth and to show honor in defeat while playing for the love of learning and not just to win a trophy or medal.
Each year Creek Nation employees and community members prepare for the competition having; monthly Core Group meetings, weekly lunch hour work sessions to prepare the study guides, develop the language listing, developing questions, recording the language study guide, compiling the official binders of questions, and conducting training sessions for the volunteers. It is a great deal of work but seeing the faces of the students, their parents and sponsors during the competition and awards ceremony is worth it all. The Challenge Bowl truly is the center event that brings the schools, community, employees and citizens together in the common goal of developing tribal pride within our youth.
The Muscogee Nation sets a standard of excellence unlike any other type of competition. We strive to keep the standard of information at the highest level using our culture, language and government as the guidepost to teach our children. We believe that teaching these standards to our children will form the foundation for their future. We are planting the “Long Rooted Grass” within our children so that whatever comes up against them, the roots of their people will hold them fast and steady
