Undergraduate Grants

The Higher Education Administers three (3) grant programs for students pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Only NEW APPLICANTS are required to complete an application. If you are currently receiving funding from the Higher Education program you are not required to complete an application each semester. Continuing students need to submit their official transcript from the semester in which they were funded, as well as a class schedule for the upcoming semester to stay eligible for the program.

  • Students are responsible for submitting all information required!

  • We will ONLY accept Official Transcripts; sealed and signed hard copy or your institution’s e-script.
  • STUDENTS: if your institution is sending an e-script (Electronic Official Transcript) to our office, it must be DIRECTLY sent to your coordinator and/or our office email (highered@mcn-nsn.gov).
  • Students are advised to contact their assigned grant coordinator or the Higher Education office for additional questions.

MCN Higher Education Undergrad Student Handbook

ATTENTION UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM SCHOLARS!!!
The purpose of the Incentive Grant is to provide awards for MCN student-citizens that achieve a 3.0 GPA, or better, at the completion of the semester/trimester/quarter. Since its inception, the Incentive Grant has been growing in recipients and program scholars have met the challenge of achieving high grades at their institution. In order to continue providing awards, meet the rising number of recipients, meet the goal of the Incentive Grant program, and further challenge program scholars’ classroom performances, the following Incentive Grant program rule update will be implemented:

Undergraduate students earning a 3.0 to 3.499 GPA are eligible to receive $350;

Undergraduate students earning a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA are eligible to receive $700.

ATTENTION STUDENTS!!!

Once you have completed the Higher Education application, you will be sent a debit card application. The following information is important regarding the debit card application process and activation of the debit card once you receive it.

General instructions on applying and activating your card:

1)      Complete debit card application, submit a color copy of a photo ID, and IMMEDIATELY return both documents to the Higher Education Department via email or mail.

2)      Once you receive your Oklahoma State Bank debit card:

  1. A) Call the phone number provided on the back of debit card and follow steps to complete activation process.
  2. B) Email, fax, or mail completed Direct Deposit Form to your grant coordinator.

3)      Once the bank card has been activated, you will receive an award letter by email, or mail, and funding will be loaded on debit card within 3-5 business days once you receive your award letter.

***PLEASE NOTE
– Be sure your information on the bank application is legible for the bank review process. If your information is not legible, it may delay the process of your debit card and tribal grant award.

Tribal Funds Grant

  • Applications available March 1 – June 1 for FALL Semester
  • Applications available Nov. 1 – Dec. 15 for SPRING Semester

Summer Session Funding

  • Summer funding depends on the availability of funds
  • Student must be receiving the degree that summer semester or the following semester
  • To be eligible for summer funding students must submit a letter from their academic school advisor of the graduation date and class schedule of summer enrollment.

 

Tribal Funds Grant will be awarded to enrolled citizens of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation attending an accredited college or university with no blood minimum quantity required. Funding for this grant does not require Pell-eligibility.  Undergraduate students are eligible for this grant.  The award amount will be determined by the number of hours in which student is enrolled up to a maximum of 18 hours.  Award rate = $125.00 per credit hour.

Eligibility Criteria for this grant is listed below:

  • Student will be required to submit copy of schedule prior to each semester
  • Student will be required to submit official transcript at the end of each semester
  • Student must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Students will be funded up to 10 semesters or 150 credit hours, whichever comes first

Grant Requirements:

  • Completed Application
  • Creek Tribal Citizenship Card
  • Signed Privacy Statement
  • College Transcript (if previously attended college)
  • Summary of Education Plan or Degree Plan/Plan of Study

**Half credit hours will not be considered in the award amounts.  (Example: student has 12.5 credit hours, the award will be considered for 12 credit hours)

  • Chart based on funding for Fall and Spring semesters only, does not include summer funding.
  • Students in need of summer courses to complete a degree program may be eligible for funding if funds are available

Tribal Grant Probation

  • Do not earn, or withdraw from, 3 credit hours or less during the semester
  • GPA falls in between 1.5 and 2.5

***Student must complete at least 12 hours at a 2.5 GPA the following semester for reinstatement***

Tribal Grant Suspension

  • Do not earn, or withdraw, 4 credit hours or more during the semester
  • GPA falls below 1.5
  • If previously on Academic Probation and do not earn 12 hours with a 2.5 GPA

BIA Grant

  • Applications available March 1 – June 1 for FALL Semester
  • Applications available Nov. 1 – Dec. 15 for SPRING Semester

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Higher Education Program will expend funds through self-governance to award educational grants to our tribal citizens, with no minimum blood quantum required, attending accredited institutions of higher learning. Funding for this grant is limited to Pell-eligible undergraduate students only and funding is determined by financial needs established by the student’s college/university.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours
  • Student must maintain a GPA of a 2.0 or higher
  • Students will be funded up to 10 semesters or 150 credit hours, whichever comes first.

Grant Requirements

  • Completed Application
  • Copy of CDIB (Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood)
  • Copy of Creek Citizenship Card
  • Signed Privacy Statement
  • Letter of Acceptance from College/Univ.
  • College Transcript (if previously attended college)

Academic Probation will occur when

  • Student reduces the amount of credit hours from previously reported hours (Example: Going from 15 hours to 12 hours)
  • Student earns GPA between 1.0 and 2.0

Grant Suspension will occur when

  • Full-time students earns less than 12 hours
  • Student is earning less than a 1.0 GPA
  • Student withdraws officially or unofficially from school

Suspended students will be required to earn one full semester (12 hours) with a GPA of 2.0 or better before eligibility will be reinstated!

Student is responsible for submitting Official Transcript at the end of each semester to maintain eligibility of the grants/scholarship program.

Tribal Incentive Grant

The Tribal Incentive Grant Program will award citizens of the Muscogee Nation who meet the grade point requirements at an accredited school. Students attending college with a GPA of 3.0 or better during the semester are able to apply for this program. Students will be funded up to 10 semesters or 150 credit hours, whichever comes first.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students are required to:

  • Submit Official Transcript within 30 days of the end of the semester;
  • Undergraduate students earning a 3.0 to 3.499 GPA are eligible to receive $350
  • Undergraduate students earning a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA are eligible to receive $700.
  • And, be on good-standing while on our tribal grants programs. If student is on probation or suspension, student will be INELIGIBLE for the Incentive Award.
  • Student must maintain credit hours for which student received semester funding.
  • Student must submit official transcript from institution. Official transcript ONLY. Documents can be hand delivered in a sign & sealed envelope by the institution, sent by institution through mail, or by the institution’s e-script process
